Fantasy WEC FAQs

What's the point?

The point is to add a different dimension to following the races. Some people follow the lead battles, some follow their favourite drivers or teams - this way you have something else to follow too.

Are there prizes?

No. Just pride. It's just a bit of fun.

What racing series does this cover?

As of right now there are 2 main series covered, plus a few extra races. We cover the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), the endurance rounds of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship (Michelin Endurace Cup) and selected GT endurance rounds (Bathurst 12 Hour, Spa 24 Hour, Nurburgring 24 and others). We have the odd non-championship round just for fun in there too.

I only follow one series / Do I have to enter every round?

Not at all. It's just a bit of fun, so enter as many or as few rounds as you like. There will be an overall leaderboard for each series and collectively for the whole thing - so there is some benefit from entering every round, but it's not essential.

How does Fantasy Endurance work?

For each round you get a fixed budget to invest. You need to choose one car from each class and you receive points at the end of the race based on their performance. Each car has a different cost, usually based on their current position in the championship (opening rounds, Le Mans and standalone races are exceptions, see below if you're interested as to why).

Your investment fund and car choices reset each race so that everyone has an equal chance.

I don't use Reddit, can I still take part?

Yes! If you are not a Reddit user but you follow WEC then you should consider joining us at /r/wec, but it's no problem if you don't.

How are the points awarded?

Points are awarded under the following system (within each class):

Achievement Points available
Qualifying position 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Laps lead 3 (most laps lead) - 1 (leading at least 1 lap)
Fastest lap 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Shortest time in pits 5 - 4 - 3 -2 - 1
Fewest pit stops 1 (this is often tied)
Position in class at 6 hours (for 10+ hour races) 12.5 - 9 - 7.5 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 0.5
Position in class at 12 hours (for 24 hour races) 12.5 - 9 - 7.5 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 0.5
Finishing position in class 25 - 18 - 15 - 12 - 10 - 8 - 6 - 4 - 2 - 1

Cars that fail to finish or that are not classified by the FIA/ACO/SRO/IMSA (or other respective organiser) are only eligible for points in the categories for qualifying, laps lead and fastest lap.

Cars that are excluded or penalised after the race may have their scores adjusted retrospectively in line with the spirit of those decisions.

The points are awarded on the data available, and some of the more in-depth analysis (including laps lead and pit stop data) are only available for IMSA and WEC.

When is the deadline to submit my entries?

The form for choosing your cars will close around the start of Qualifying at each round. This is done manually so timings will vary slightly but my aim is the start of qualifying. If you miss the deadline then there is a late entry option which will randomly nuke one of your choices. The late entries close at the start of the race.

Are some rounds run differently?

Yes!

For some rounds (e.g. Le Mans) there is such a large entry (many of whom are not there for the rest of the season), the price for investing in each car is chosen arbitrarily, by me. It is based on performance in other series (e.g. IMSA) in order to provide the same balance in making the most competitive cars more expensive.

For some rounds (e.g. WEC Sebring, Daytona, GT races) there is no previous data from that season to use. Sometimes all cars are priced equally, sometimes there are arbitrary decisions made to seed or rank the most likely winners.

Why do you need my email address?

Your email address is only used for resetting your password and for sending (very) occasional update emails just before the choices close for each round. You can't leave it blank, but you can choose not to receive any emails from me, ever. Your account page includes a 'forget me' link so you can request to be deleted from the database. This does mean that all of your entries and results will also be deleted.

How come the rules / points / prices have changed since the last time I looked?

The fantasy league is pretty informal and I'm continually trying to refine the systems in order to get the best setup. If you're not happy with any of the changes then you are welcome to a full refund on your entry fee. /s

I have a suggestion / feedback

I'm always (well, usually) happy to hear feedback. My Reddit account is at the bottom of every page and you can find me in the r/wec Discord.

Do you have a privacy / Security Policy?

Ugh, yes. All data is collected by me, via the website. Data is stored and processed by my webhost in whichever countries their data centres are found. I'm a UK citizen and abide by Data Protection and GDPR regulations to the best of my knowledge. The only 'personal' data I hold about you is your email address and your reddit username. I don't / won't / haven't shared your details with anyone else. The website has HTTPS enabled for end-to-end encryption and passwords are hashed and salted. If you want to be removed from the database at any time then click the forget me link on your account page or drop me a line and it'll be done.
